I built these TallBikes using bikes and steel harvested from the dump and the side of the road. As a proof of concept, I built an intentionally slapdash bike, just to get a sense of how everything would work. This first model was a lot of fun to ride and gave me some helpful insight about frame design and seat placement. On V1, I put the seat too far back -- which made it really easy to wheelie, and also frighteningly easy to fall off the back.
Before starting on Version 2, I did much more thinking about the frame geometry and specifically chose donor bikes that would work well. Things like the drive train and frame geo got updates, but the biggest thing I added was the cargo box.
Scroll down a tad to see V2 and V1.
